A typical adult during the last hundred years has spent twenty percent of their lives in retirement, compared to about three percent earlier. This has resulted in an exponential increase in senior travel as well.
As demand has increased, supply has gone up as well. With senior travel becoming more common, people are looking for tips to help them along the way. As you embark on your next adventure keep the following tips in mind:
Firstly, make certain you allow enough time to see everything. You'll be glad, as long as you have enough money to do it all. Seeing and doing everything includes more than just shopping. Many seniors tend to just shop and shop and shop. Instead of spending all your time shopping, take time to explore the culture, the lifestyle and the surrounding environment. You may have to remain patient and keep an open mind, which is actually another tip to remember.
Some practical ideas for senior travel include taking comfortable clothes and at least one suit. Make sure you use traveler's checks instead of credit cards if you're going overseas. Remember any extras that you should bring, such as extra contact lenses or a pair of glasses or enough medication to last for your entire trip. Also make certain that you have at least twice the amount of money that you think you'll need, just in case.
Make sure someone is keeping an eye on your home or any pets while you're gone. If you do buy anything overseas, make certain you ship it back home, not pack it with your regular luggage. Make sure you also get plenty of exercise ahead of time to be prepared for any extra walking you may do.
Become familiar with the camera that you're taking with you. Take some practice shots or even a practice roll of film before you leave. Carry two phone numbers where a person can be reached in case of emergency. Avoid splurging too much or going off your dietary routine. Use a travel agency that you feel you can trust; don't be tempted by offers that seem too good to be true. Last but not least look for friends to travel with, as this can save you money and help you have even more fun.
With many seniors taking advantage of their opportunity to travel, there are also many who don't know exactly what to do. Keeping all these tips in one place for easy access can definitely help. If you keep these ideas in mind, the next time you plan a trip you'll have more fun and be more at ease.
