Lutheran Senior Services Communities

from: Pat Moauro

Lutheran-sponsored Senior Living Communities Open to Seniors of All Faiths

All states have senior living communities; some are privately owned and others are church-sponsored. For example, the Lutheran Church sponsors a number of senior living communities, which operate on the philosophy that total health care for the aged includes body, mind, and soul. However, you don't have to be Lutheran to apply to live in one of the church sponsored communities.

The church's commitment to the elderly population is evident in the social and economic services it makes available. These include in-home health, and pastoral care. The senior living communities are spread out across the United States, with some in Missouri and others in Illinois. A variety of aged programs are affiliated with the Lutheran church. You can contact a local Lutheran church to help determine what's available in your area. Residents are offered transportation and life enrichment programs.

Lutheran senior services are committed to providing low-income housing for the elderly. Some communities only require rent to be 30% of the adjusted income for eligible seniors, who should be 62 years of age or older. President George W. Bush visited one of the Lutheran senior services communities to recognize their commitment to the aged and his own attempt to provide support in the form of a medication drug prescription plan. Lutheran senior services also help with daily errands, meals, bathing, companionship, and other caregiver responsibilities.

Lutheran senior services aren't just for those with health needs. They provide a home and care that enhances and reaffirms life. Even licensed beauticians are involved in the community to provide hairdressing, manicures, and pedicures. However, if residents need injections or medication management these are provided by professionals, such as skilled nurses, who are available for community members.

The communities can be large with apartments and single residential homes on the campus. Some are located in scenic vistas overlooking water. A variety of housing options from condos to cottages are available at different Lutheran senior services centers. The communities can provide common areas for seniors and many amenities such as banking, private meeting rooms, libraries, computer and media rooms, and pools and spas. Grounds and homes are maintained by a staff of professionals who care for the community's structures as part of the Lutheran senior services.

Although the Lutheran church sponsors many of the centers, the community is open to people of all faiths. A chapel is available with services being held regularly in these communities. Bible study is included among some of the planned activities, along with arts and crafts, socials, movies and exercise classes. Any of these communities offer a wide range of services and are well worth looking into when you're planning your new retirement home.
