Seniors Jobs / Activities
from: Pat MoauroHow to Find Suitable Seniors' Jobs and Activities
Even after reaching the age of retirement, a person can still be productive in a variety of jobs and activities for seniors. These are available for all age groups over fifty-five. One excellent source of job information and advice is the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), which provides information on training and retraining for new fields suited for seniors.
Many seniors still want to contribute by working; others have no choice but to continue working. Fortunately, many seniors' jobs and seniors' activities are available if you know where to look or are willing to do the necessary retraining.
Suitable seniors' jobs don't generally require lots of physical strength or dexterity. Age discrimination, although illegal, continues to exist in the workplace; however, seniors can still find employment in some sectors. The service and education sectors are two areas where seniors can still contribute.
Seniors' activities in the service sector include:
* Working as caregivers for other seniors, children or others.
Many seniors find employment as caregivers after retirement. Some are employed as companions to other seniors. Others, especially grandparents, are employed by their grown children as babysitters for the grandchildren.
Seniors' jobs in nursing homes are also available. These include seniors taking care of other seniors who are unable to manage on their own.
* Serving as Counselors.
Because of their life or job experience some seniors find jobs as counselors. Some set up offices, while others work in hospitals and senior facilities, or offer their services at church.
* Employed in upper managerial positions.
Research has shown that some persons over fifty-five have been fortunate to find employment in upper managerial positions. These seniors' jobs take advantage of the vast experience persons have gained over the years.
* Teachers often find employment after retirement, especially in the areas where they had worked previously.
Seniors' activities include:
* Crafts
* Games
* Gardening
* Trips to museums, parks, etc.
* Pottery making
Countless job banks provide leads to seniors' jobs that retirees can access to find employment. Some job banks are free and others are fee-based.
Please note that many seniors' activities are volunteer activities, without pay. Many aged citizens feel the need to keep working because they're healthy and active, and find it difficult not to be doing something.
Seniors are a vast reservoir of information gained through years of working experience. Sadly, this great reservoir of knowledge is left largely untapped because few companies are employing new workers over a certain age.
