Jobs for Seniors: You in the Workplace

from: Pat Moauro

Now that you are growing older where do you fit in the workplace? Are you afraid you won't find any available, suitable jobs? As you grow older are you worried you will lack the abilities to participate on the job? Perhaps you're now unable to do the job you've been doing all your life but you still want to work and do something.

You need to find out what you can about available jobs for seniors and your own place in the workforce.

Many jobs for seniors are still available; it's all about finding where you fit in the workplace and how to balance your needs with the work you are seeking. You need to prepare properly for whatever you decide to do. You also must be able to distinguish between what you're capable of doing and what you aren't. Don't be frustrated if you're no longer able to do some of the things you could before. This is perfectly normal.

If you're a senior looking for a job, here are some questions you should ask yourself:

1. What skills and qualifications do I have?

2. Do I have transportation to take me where I need to go?

3. What kind of experience do I have?

4. Do I have health problems or conditions that will interfere with my ability to hold certain jobs?

5. Do I have the energy and time to commit to working a job?

6. Will getting a job effect my retirement or retirement compensation?

7. Do I need to work?

8. Do I want to work?

These are all valid questions. Your answers can give you great insight into whether or not you as a senior want to go back to work or look for jobs. Ultimately, only you or your doctor can decide if it's okay for you to work as a senior, and only you can decide where you work at. Some jobs that seniors hold are light, easy. Part time jobs include school cafeteria worker, grocery workers, department store greeters, etc.

You need to know the kind of job you're able to do in your position and whether you can commit to it, and that your health will permit you to perform those duties. You should ask your doctor if you have any concerns about your health and ability to perform a certain task. Otherwise, go ahead and enjoy whatever work you feel like doing.
